Oz The Great and Powerful review By: FAT Mike
Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician is swept away from Kansas to the vibrant and enchanted Land of Oz. At first he thinks he's hit the jackpot of fame and fortune but That all changes when he meets three witches. Now Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late and save the enchanted Land of Oz with magical art of illusions.
We all now the story of The Wizard of Oz now we get to see how OZ became the great and powerful. This is a star studded cast made up of James Franco, Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, Michelle Williams, Zach Braff, Tony Cox, and a cameo by the always awesome Bruce Campbell. I like James Franco but the whole time I felt it was it was James Franco in a top hat doing magic; I never felt like he was really Oz to me. The story is well written and feels like a family friendly origin story but I felt like something was missing the whole time. OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL has a Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland set feel which I mostly hated. I would of like to have seen some built sets. Sometimes the C.G. feels bad but it’s still fun.
One of my favourite things about OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL was the transition from black and white to color from Kansas to the Land of Oz.
All together OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL is a well written and is a fun story for the whole family but feels like it lacks something. And don’t forget to look for Bruce Campbell Cheers and remember life will never suck as long as there is a GOOD movie to watch.
