CBGB the Movie review by FAT Mike
CBGB follows the story of Hilly Kristal, his New York club and the birthplace of underground rock 'n roll and punk.
As a punk fan, I loved this movie! This film is shot beautifully and is like watching a comic book come to life. I also wouldn’t be shocked to see a shot for shot graphic novel soon. The cast is amazing and some of the stars are Alan Rickman, Johnny Galecki (The Big Bang Theory), Stana Katic (Castle), Ryan Hurst (Sons of Anarchy), Rupert Grint (Harry Potter), Justin Bartha (The Hangover), Malin Akerman (Watchmen), and Joel David Moore (Gandma’s Boy) as Joy Ramone.
I heard some of these stories in interviews with musicians but to see them re-enacted glued to this movie. The story is wonderful, unbelievably makes you wish you were there and it’s full of laughs. The music is awesome; it’s all from the bands who played at the time, such as: The Stooges, Ramones, Richard Hell and The Voidoids, Talking Heads, Dead Boys, Blondie, and The Police. This film about CBGB’s is more than a great film, it’s a history lesson on when music was good.
With a awesome historic story, an amazing cast, great music and full of laughs, CBGB has become one of my top 10 favourite movies. A MUST SEE and MUST NOT BE MISSED! Cheers and remember life will never suck as long as there is a GOOD movie to watch.
