THE LONE RANGER review by FAT Mike

A Native American warrior, Tonto, recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid, a man of the law, into a legend of justice known as the Lone Ranger.

I went into this film not expecting much and that’s what I got. The Lone Ranger has an odd mix of PG-13 blood and language but the jokes are family friendly and dull. The cast is a amazing but not at their best: Johnny Deep plays Tonto as a less talkative version of Jack Sparrow, which takes away from the film; Armie Hammer never feels like he becomes the hero and he feels like the side kick; Helena Bonham Carter performance bugged me a lot because her British accent got in the way of her southern drawl that she’s trying to perform. I also don’t think she needs to be in every Johnny Depp movie. William Fichtner plays the outlaw; as I said before I always enjoy him as the villain and this is no different. The rest of the cast is forgettable and you don’t care for them. I always enjoy seeing Stephen Root in films and he does a cameo but nothing that stands out.
The cast may have been better if the films story wasn’t so winded. It was longer then it had to be which made the film boring and Gore Verbinski tried too hard to make this film feel like The Pirates of the Caribbean.
I didn’t hate everything, the sets and locations are beautiful. The interactions with Tonto and the sprit horse (sliver) start off fun but dulls out. The action scene near the start was fun but falls flat after that. I enjoyed the end of the film, its fun action but by the time it gets to that point I just checked out and didn’t care any more. I also never feel like The Lone Ranger becomes the hero we know in this story.

The Lone Ranger is lacking in so many ways and it tries to feel like a western version of The Pirates of the Caribbean, so save your self some time and watch The Pirates of the Caribbean, it’s much better. Cheers and remember life will never suck as long as there is a GOOD movie to watch
