Escape From Planet Earth review by FAT Mike
Scorch Supernova (Brendan Fraser), a super star hero from the planet Baab, finds himself imprisoned at Area 51 while responding to an SOS from the dangerous Dark Planet. His nerdy brother Gary Supernova (Rob Corddry) is caught in a trap when he tries to save his big brother.
I had high hopes for ESCAPE FROM PLANET EARTH but the story felt flat, rushed, forgettable, and you don’t care about the characters. The movie made me chuckle but had no big laugh out loud moments and felt like a big build up but with now pay off. The music was all around terrible and they played the same song 3 times which felt lazy.
One thing I loved as a movie lover was that every Area 51 henchmen is named after a movie director. The animation and characters look awesome and you want to love the characters…but don’t. The cast is amazing made up of Rob Corddry, Brendan Fraser, Ricky Gervais, Jessica Alba,George Lopez, Craig Robinson, Jane Lynch Paul Scheer, and captain Kirk himself William Shatner as the main villain General Shanker. But I’d like to see this awesome cast in something that would make you care.
With a flat story and no attachment to the characters, a awesome cast and good animation can’t save ESCAPE FROM PLANET EARTH. Cheers and remember life will never suck as long as there is a GOOD movie to watch.
